Furnace not working?

When the your furnace goes out in the middle of winter, your home can quickly become very cold and potentially dangerous. Before calling someone in to take a look, make sure you have followed these steps first.


  • Make sure service switch on side of furnace is on.
  • Check breaker to see if it is on for furnace.
  • Make sure thermostat is in heating mode.
  • If thermostat is battery operated – make sure it has good batteries
  • Check filter to see if it needs to be replaced.
  • If furnace is vented horizontally – make sure venting is not plugged.  This can happen in snow storms or blizzards.
  • Check condensate drain line to see if it is plugged.
  • If furnace has a condensate pump – make sure it is operational.

Air Conditioner not working?

When the temperature are soaring outside and your air conditioning unit has decided to stop working it can quickly heat up your home and make things very uncomfortable. Before calling someone in to take a look, make sure you have followed these steps first.


  • Make sure service switch on side of furnace is on.
  • Check breakers for furnace & AC to see if they are on.
  • Make sure thermostat is in cooling mode.
  • If thermostat is battery operated – make sure it has good batteries
  • Check A/C disconnect (outside by A/C) to make sure it is on.
  • If you have a saver switch from Electric Company, check to see if it is in saver mode, if so, A/C will not run.
  • Check furnace filter to see if it needs to be replaced.
  • If furnace has a condensate pump – make sure it is operational.
